Narrative description of project:
Overview:
As part of the Improved Three-Stone Stove (F3PA) inventory project, Tiipaalga supports rural communities in Burkina Faso in combating deforestation and improving household living conditions by promoting energy-efficient stoves.
Challenge:
Traditional cooking consumes a lot of firewood, which accelerates deforestation and increases women's workload. In addition, in order to retain its carbon credits, Tiipaalga had to rigorously and regularly demonstrate the effective use of the stoves by households, in accordance with Gold Standard requirements, a process that is difficult to ensure with manual means in areas with poor network coverage.
Solution
Thanks to Akvo's digital tools, Tiipaalga has been able to set up an effective data collection and monitoring system. These tools enable reliable information to be gathered directly in the field, even offline, and data quality to be regularly checked to ensure it meets international standards.
Impact
The project has reduced household firewood consumption by up to 60%, helping to preserve forests and improve women's living conditions. Tiipaalga now has better visibility of the progress made, can target the communities it supports more effectively, and has a solid database to maintain its carbon credits and ensure the sustainability of its actions.
