Mobile data for moving herds management and better incomes (MODHEM+ DDC)

Narrative description of project:
Overview:
As part of the RESILIA programme, the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) has granted funding to the Dutch Development Organisation, SNV, for the implementation of complementary complementary actions of the project to improve livestock mobility and the income of agropastoralists through the use of mobile telephony and satellite imagery (MODHEM+). These complementary actions to MODHEM+, called MODHEM+DDC is a project implemented over 04 years from 1 January 2021 to 31 December 2024 by SNV and its partners. The objective of MODHEM+/DDC is to contribute to improving the productivity, income, resilience and food security of pastoral populations and food security of pastoral and agro-pastoral populations in a context of climate change and security crises.

Challenge:
Pastoralists and agro-pastoralists face growing challenges, including climate change, scarcity of water and grazing resources, and land-use conflicts. The majority are also illiterate, and therefore make less use of technological solutions.
Solution:
Use of ICTs, in particular mobile telephony and satellite imagery, to improve livestock mobility and agropastoralists' incomes
Impact:
The MODHEM+/DDC project will contribute to improving the productivity, income, resilience and food security of pastoral and agro-pastoral populations in a context of climate change and security crises. In the long term, the project's actions will sustainably transform the management of pastoralism thanks to new technologies, thus contributing to food security, poverty reduction and the stability of pastoral areas.
