Digitally Tracking Sanitation Solutions in Colombia

Digitally Tracking Sanitation Solutions in Colombia

Project Description

In the drought-prone region of La Guajira, Colombia, communities—especially the indigenous Wayuu—face severe challenges in accessing safe water and sanitation. To address this, UNICEF collaborated with Akvo to create a digital WASH platform under the SAHTOSO programme. The system centralises real-time, georeferenced data on sanitation coverage, infrastructure, and community activities. Akvo led the platform’s design and deployment, ensuring data usability, transparency, and scalability. The portal enables local governments and partners to visualise needs, monitor ODF progress, and prioritise investments, setting a replicable model for other Colombian regions.
