In the context of the complex humanitarian crisis in Burkina Faso, the WASH Cluster identified a urgent need: updating the data on the number of People in Need (PIN) of Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) services. Traditional data collection methods were challenged by limited access to many municipalities.
This project, building on a long-standing collaboration between Akvo and UNICEF in West Africa, was designed to overcome this barrier. It implemented a rapid, remote assessment using phone surveys to gather essential data from key informants in twenty specifically identified, hard-to-reach municipalities. The process involved establishing reliable contacts, conducting structured interviews, and delivering cleaned, analyzed data.
The output was a comprehensive set of deliverables, including a central database, municipal one-page summaries, and a final report. This information directly fed into the WASH Cluster's decision-making process, providing an evidence-based snapshot of needs and allowing for the more precise targeting of limited resources in the most vulnerable areas.
