As a key component of the Luxembourg-Mali cooperation program for Rural Development and Food Security, this project addressed the need for reliable data in the agricultural sector. It engaged the Akvo Foundation to create a robust Information and Communication Technology (ICT) solution.
The project centered on establishing an agricultural and market information system specifically for the rice, fonio, and sesame value chains. By leveraging the Akvo Flow platform, the initiative enabled the systematic collection of data through mobile forms, supported by training for dashboard managers and enumerators. The solution included technical assistance for data quality control, analysis, and the development of customized visualizations and maps (using tools like CartoDB) to make the data actionable.
The ultimate goal was to provide farmers, cooperatives, and other value chain actors with timely and accurate information on markets and agricultural practices. This data-driven approach aimed to increase efficiency, improve market access, and strengthen the overall resilience of the targeted value chains, thereby directly contributing to the program's broader objectives of enhancing rural development and food security in Mali.
